So, has the Newcastle Well-Being Show been a success? Read on for a full and fair assessment.
The Newcastle Well-Being Show has always had the potential to be a superb event, made even more successful by the warmth and kindness of visitors to Newcastle. The people who come to this event are truly special. They show absolute enthusiasm and dedication for the event. It is heartening to see so many returning visitors each year, and this makes all the effort we put into the event so worthwhile.
It’s wonderful that visitors stay for so long. Many start early in the day and are still here at the end of the day. This is a good indication of the standard of the community exhibitors, who have travelled substantial distances to this event. It shows the faith in the show.
Our special thanks go to Tyneside Radio. Tony and Neal arrived at 10 o’clock this morning and stayed until midday. They were a superb asset to the show and to attendance figures. The show definitely started tailing off after 2:45 on Saturday afternoon, and the venue became fairly empty. But no matter, I believe we all enjoyed Saturday.

Sunday:
I report that visitor footfall on Sunday was disappointing, falling short of what one would have hoped. Although many community exhibitors had a reasonable day, overall attendance was lower. I’m not making any excuses. We all tried our very best, invested heavily in social media, and had the amazing support of Tyneside Radio, but the people did not arrive.
In the cold light of day, I have to consider why shows sometimes don’t work, especially after the runaway success of the Newark Well-Being Show a few weeks ago. The consensus is that too many shows in a small radius is the primary reason for slow attendance in many areas. In the North East, this is not the case; there are very few similar events locally. We accept that many are concerned about personal long-term finances. Others have moved away from the genre, and it may be saturated. What is the answer to the question? There is no definitive answer. The bottom line is that we failed to attract sufficient visitors on the second day of the show. We pulled out all the stops; the organ sang, but, for Sunday, the symphony fell on deaf ears.
My thanks and thoughts go to the amazing people who came to support this event, and to the dedication of the 40 community exhibitors who made it possible for local people to experience the World of Well Being. Thanks to all of your support over this weekend.
