Here is an excellent Community Member Profile for Jacqueline Seddon. Her words will resonate with many people. I read through the introduction a few times and enjoyed every paragraph. Thank You, Jacqueline.

I was once told by Janey Lee Grace that saying I had a qualification from the University of Life was not an original thing to say. Okay, on reflection, I might agree with that, but how else do you say that you are the sum total of everything you have learned during your lifetime  – in a positive way?

If I had to sum up my general attitude to how I live, I would say that I was definitely in there decades ago before the “I Can” or “This Girl Can” advertising campaigns even hit the drawing board. There is so much to learn out there in this big, wide Universe and I am still learning and changing every day. Thanks to my wonderful mother, who constantly told us “There is no such word as ‘can’t’, my ‘can do’ attitude has helped me through a variety of experiences and supported me through many changes.

I think I always knew there was more to life than just the 9-5 routine, but I didn’t always have the courage to risk as much as I dreamed of.  The 1900s (sounds like so long ago!) when I was being brought up gave me many opportunities to experiment and learn, but it wasn’t always easy to deviate from the “given” path. So, for several decades, while I cared for my children and worked as a teacher,  my aspirations and true beliefs were submerged into the traditional: earning money, passing on customs, running activities etc etc. But despite that, somewhere in all of it, there must have been times when I spoke a different truth: my daughter reminded me just recently that I, too, had passed on the message of “I can” from when she was quite young.

I think many women hold fast to a path that is about raising their children to be strong and well-nourished, but forget that in order to do that, they have to care for themselves first – how often do I hear there is always “later”?  That was certainly the case with me: until I discovered that I had breast cancer. It was the key to opening the door, not back to the past, but onto reconnecting with the other way that I had chosen not to take. I knew immediately that it was a gift and would give me a new future. That doesn’t mean that I don’t understand how scary the word “cancer” is, it just means that, intuitively, I recognised that only something as serious as cancer would pull me up short and make me really re-assess what I wanted for the rest of my life.

From that dis-ease, came new learning: initially, Reflexology which I fell in love with after the first treatment, then specialising in Reproflexology (for fertility/hormonal balance) and Reflexology Lymph Drainage, Reiki, Emotional Freedom Technique, Nutrition & Lifestyle, The Balance Procedure and Old Pain2Go.

I see myself as a facilitator rather than a therapist, recognising that we need to find our own way and no one therapy fits all: we are all unique and we all need a unique plan to help us be healthy, happy & wise.

    • You are right Jane, there is a real movement toward Reiki and other alternative healing concepts. I feel we have a perfect balance of therapists and healers at The Newark Well Being Show, and I’m certain the Visitors will enjoy the event. Ian
