Introduction to Newstead – The Newstead Abbey Well Being Show takes over from where the old Trowell show left off: although this show has many advantages.
The Trowell show attained almost cult status with people travelling from considerable distances to enjoy the show. When the closure was announced, we could not have anticipated the sadness expressed by the loyal following of Visitors.
Yes: there is a new Nottingham Well Being Show, and this has already received substantial interest from Community and Visitors. The Jubilee Conference Centre is purpose-built for the weekend’s event.

When the opportunity arose to promote a Well Being Show at Newstead the immediate thought was could we present an event which could take over from Trowell? It soon became evident this historic grade one listed building would be a perfect venue for a small and intimate Well Being Show.
The Community list will be a little larger than Trowell: Around thirty-eight Community Members will stand. And Visitors will be delighted to discover the talk schedule will be thirty talks for the weekend. Lectures are a real attraction, and the two talk rooms will enhance Visitor enjoyment.
Remember: Newstead is an old building, and there are limitations. Both talk rooms are upstairs; please remember this aspect when planning to attend The Well Being Show. Newstead’s restaurant/cafe provides an excellent menu to cover most tastes there is ample indoor and outside seating. Community and Visitors must remember there is NO food or drink allowed in the house. If you wish to bring a picnic the hundreds of acres of grounds will fulfil this need.
Community Members will bring a broad spectrum of interest to Visitors. Spiritual and alternative healing – Spiritual councillors – and plenty of retail opportunities await the Visitors. Along with the extensive talk schedule, there is every reason to make the half hour drive from the centre of Nottingham.
We have arranged for a concession price for entry to the house. And Visitor’s can take full advantage of the grounds, which include the Japanese Garden, lake and other water features. Over the weekend, there will be tai-chi and Yoga demonstrations to complete the Well Being activates.
Keep an eye on LEN for more news nearer to the event. Listen to Liz Clark and Jon Sharp talking about the venue and the future show. It is a superb interview and Liz and Jon provide a real feel for the Well Being Show and it’s historical venue:

Discover the Romance & Mystery of Byron’s Home
Newstead Abbey is a beautiful historic house set in a glorious landscape of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire. Founded as a monastic house in the late 12th century, Newstead was home to the poet Lord Byron between 1808 – 1814. Inside the Abbey there is much to explore including Victorian room settings, and the poets private apartments.
The gardens and parkland at Newstead Abbey cover more than 300 acres with paths that meander past lakes, ponds and waterfalls. The formal gardens are the perfect place to relax and offer something in all seasons from the bright colours of the rhododendrons in late spring to the Japanese maples in autumn.
