Traditional Chinese Medicine
TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine, an ancient form of medicine developed in China over thousands of years. TCM includes the techniques of Acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, and many more, and is a Holistic form of medicine.
In relation to human health, the Chinese word ‘Qi’ (pronounced ‘Chee’) is used to refer to the fundamental vitality of the body that keeps it functioning in a balanced manner. Qi could be described as an electro-magnetic energy that flows through the body along certain pathways that the Chinese call meridians. These meridians connect with the internal organs of the body to create a lattice of communication networks that ensure the proper working of the entire body. When the circulation of this Qi is impeded for whatever reason, symptoms develop.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into special locations on the body referred to as acupoints. These points have a lower electrical resistance than other areas on the body.
Our needles are much finer and flexible, and often the patient does not feel the needle being inserted at all.
How does it work?
After a full consultation including discussion of any previous medical history, current medications, diet and lifestyle a diagnosis will be made and a treatment plan will be recommended by the practitioner.
Carefully considered acupoints will be chosen by the clinician, they will then stimulate the circulation of Qi, not only in the local area, but also in areas far away from the needle site on the same meridian and in the organs that the meridian connects to.
